BOOK ADVENTURE

    Our students are really enjoying using an internet reading program called Book Adventure.  This program is a lot like Accelerated Reading that we use at school, but there are some differences.  First of all, this program has more than just tests.  It also has games and activities for the students.  The students are able to redeem their points for prizes.  Some are printed from the computer at school, and others we print a coupon to redeem the prize through the mail.  I encourage all parents to visit this web site to check out all the cool things for our kids.

TUTORING / OEY

    Right now, we are tutoring students three days a week during recess time.   We are doing Math and Reading tutoring.  The students know who they are to go to for tutoring each day.  We are hoping that by tutoring during recess time, we can help those students who we feel will benefit from this extra 30 minutes a day.  So far, we are seeing some improvement in those students. 

    OEY (Optional Extended Year) tutoring begins January 10.  This is tutoring that we do after school.  Like the recess tutoring, we hope this extra help with bring up those students who are having difficulty in the TAKS subject areas.  OEY lasts for 10 weeks and is from 3:15 to 4:25.  If your child is attending, please make sure that you pick them up on time.

HANDWRITING

    We started cursive handwriting at the beginning of this six-weeks.  We have handwriting homework every day.  Please make sure that your child is forming the letters correctly.  It is important that they learn the proper way.  If not, it makes forming words a lot harder. 

    After we have learned all our lower case letters, we will begin taking our spelling tests in cursive.  If the letters are not made correctly, the words are counted wrong.
